Carie Vejvoda
The Artist

Like so many other little girls, Carie Vejvoda started out singing into a hairbrush and dancing around her bedroom. But at age 7, she was already writing her own songs, making up dances, and teaching her little routines to the neighbor kids to put on shows.

Growing up in Omaha, NE, Carie was drawn to music, fashion, beauty, and fitness. At age 18, she was already a cosmetologist, still singing cover songs, and writing music on the side. So, after a year of working in the salon, she had saved up enough money to move to Los Angeles, become a hair color specialist, and hoped to find better opportunities with music. She did.

Finally, at age 24, she met Tim Moore at Mas Music Productions and for the first time began recording her own music. “I was so happy to start working with someone who not only was excited about my music, but also understood my style of writing and the direction I wanted to take my songs. The best part was, I had found someone to work with who listened to me and never made me feel like my ideas were stupid. That’s when I got more creative.”  Carie also enjoyed working with her talented drummer, Amador Solis.

The Music

After working in the studio for a year, Carie has wrapped up her first EP, with each song telling a story. Carie explains:

“The first song, ‘Serial Dater’, is actually the last song I wrote for the CD. I wanted a song I could play in the clubs and see people dancing to. The title pretty much sums up this song… it’s about dating guy after guy, all asking the same dumb questions, each of them putting on an act, trying to impress me. And I am just waiting for someone different to come along.

“The second song, ‘Weekend Girl’, was the first song I ever recorded. It’s about breaking up with someone, and the guy says he wants to make it work but he won’t put in the effort until he’s lonely on the weekend. It’s about that awful, unhealthy kind of relationship that is off and on too many times until the girl has finally had enough.

“The third song, ‘The Best Company’,
was a fun one for me to write. I wrote it for my friends who asked me to sing at their wedding reception. It’s about wanting to spend every moment with the person you love. You don’t have to do anything. You just enjoy eachother’s company. You look forward to waking up next to them just like you look forward to your morning coffee each day.

“The fourth song, 'So Pretty',
I collaborated with my friends Jack Dill and Bill Scott. It’s my happy song. It’s about dating, really getting to know someone and falling for them all before that first kiss. And you just can’t wait for that first kiss, and when you finally get it, you fall for them even more.  I wrote this song when I had just started dating someone that took so long to kiss me, I wasn't sure if he liked me.  But then the way he looked at me gave him away.

“The last song is ‘No Mr. Charming’.
I’ve had the video for this song in my mind since I sang it in the studio. It’s about being in a bar, and no matter what kind of bar you are in, you can just feel how desperate people are to hook up, especially when it’s last call. It’s about a guy, putting on his charm, and if I turn him down, he’ll hit on the girl right next to me. And I’m not falling for it, I’ll go home alone, and wake up with no regrets.

“I have enjoyed working on all these songs, and I have so many other tunes in my head that I hope to record next. Enjoy!”
